The Giant Sable Antelope (Hippotragus niger variani) is a critically endangered subspecies of sable antelope endemic to Angola, particularly the forests and savannas of its central region. It is one of Africa's most majestic antelopes, renowned for the exceptionally long, curved, ringed horns of both sexes, which can reach up to 1.6 meters (5.4 feet) in males. Giant Sables have glossy black coats (males) and distinctive white facial markings. They are grazers, feeding on grasses. This subspecies is on the brink of extinction due to civil war, poaching, and habitat loss.
