Details for Steamer Duck
- Steamer Duck
Steamer ducks are a genus of large, heavy-bodied ducks native to South America, particularly common in coastal regions of Chile and Argentina, and the Falkland Islands. They are named for their unique behavior of 'steaming' across the water, using their wings like paddle wheels, often because they are flightless (some species are entirely flightless). These ducks are robust, with short wings relative to their body size, and can be quite aggressive. They feed on marine invertebrates, often diving for their prey. Males are typically larger than females and can be very territorial.
