Jackals are medium-sized canids native to Africa, Asia, and southeastern Europe, known for their opportunistic scavenging and hunting. The Golden Jackal (Canis aureus) is found across much of North and East Africa. They are typically smaller than wolves but larger than foxes, with a yellowish-brown coat. Jackals are omnivores, feeding on carrion, small mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, and fruits. They are social animals, often living in pairs or small family groups, and are highly vocal, known for their distinctive howling and yelping calls.
