The Hornero (Furnarius rufus) is a small passerine bird, approximately 18-20 cm (7-8 inches) long, renowned for its distinctive oven-shaped mud nests. Its plumage is mostly reddish-brown, with a whitish throat. Native to South America, it inhabits grasslands, agricultural areas, and urban environments. It is insectivorous, and its song is fast and repetitive. The nest, built from mud and plant fibers, is a sturdy, spherical structure with an an entrance leading to an inner chamber where the female lays her eggs.
