Famed for its clay-oven nest, the rufous hornero bustles across South America’s lawns and pampas. This chestnut songbird hammers mud and straw into a domed home with its lifelong mate, then scours the ground for beetles and worms. Its sturdy oven and tireless work made it Argentina’s national bird.
